Greatest Hits 1 opens with Bohemian Rhapsody and includes Another One Bites The Dust, Crazy Little Thing Called Love and Don't Stop Me Now. Try singing along with it. Anyway, what can I say about this masterwork.

This album has a certain something about it, just like the follow-up release, and the one after that. Like 'Led Zeppelin IV,' this mish-mash of styles just works. Honestly, how many other bands can (a) sing this well, (b) write such great songs, (c) play their instruments so well? Listen to this record, you unbelievers. You lords and lady creatures. This band is rock in roll. They have an artsy side and it shows. But their music is always a symphony. If their was such a thing as rock and roll symphonies. They are poetic and their writing is good enough to be a damn good movie. 'mAMA just killed a man. Put my trigger near his head, ' and ' I paid a price but committed no crime.'

This band deserves recognition and I do not know where to start. I can see how they've stuck around as long as they have. It is never out of place and it never gets old. From reading other reviews, it seems the perception by some is that this album was a bit of a letdown upon its initial release in 1978, but I certainly never saw it that way. I'll get some disagreement on this I'm sure, but to me this is one of Queen's top 2 or 3 albums ever and the last truly great Queen album to feature all the elements of the classic Queen sound.

These are not personal favorites of mine and actually two of the weaker tracks on the album. 'Queen' is a great album.

It's the first record I ever bought, and one of my favorite Queen albums. I decided to buy this album on cd so I can play it in the car when my Dad and I go out and about. The opening track, 'Keep Yourself Alive' is a fitting opening to such a grandiose album. The next track, 'Doing Alright, is fairly laid-back, for me it brings to mind a calm ocean scene. Then the guitars kick in! After all, what is a Queen track without the sweet sounds of Brian May's Red Special? Then comes 'Great King Rat', one of my favorites off this album.

Right off the bat, you can tell this is gonna be a heavier song. Combining elements of fantasy and religion, it's something of an epic. Next is 'My Fairy King'. Almost right away, you get Roger Taylor's wonderful falsetto voice.

I originally wrote a review about this album based on the copy I received from an inexperienced seller. I realized that the seller had just done a simple 'copy and paste' for his album image and it was not a fair representation of the actual MFSL version that I acquired from a private seller afterwards. I purchased an album that I thought was going to be a MFSL copy of this album, but what I actually received was a regular and quite poor US first release of this great Lp. After forking out over $100.00 for a mint copy of this classic, I realized that it sounds incredible. This is one of the first of the MFSL albums to use the 'Anadisc 200' method of production and I think these sound better than the very first MFSL releases. The 'Ultra Gain 2 ' series are the best yet. Having just recently learned that QUEEN was much more than a pompous arena rock band (WE WILL ROCK YOU, ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST, etc.), I have bought several of QUEENS albums.
