I've had a personal Wu renaissance during the last week, banging nothing but Wu and especially the RZA and 4th Disciple's production work. While listening to the bonus tracks from 'Bobby Digital in Stereo' i got this idea, i've seen alot of people say over the years that they wished RZA would've released a solo album as The RZA instead of Bobby Digital during that time. I took the time to compile and arrange an album worth of RZA material released between 1997 and 1999. Now i ain't trying to bring no exclusive shit to the forefront here because you probably heard all the tracks here but nontheless all songs are in perfect CD quality and i put some thought into the sequencing of the LP. I tried to keep it as RZA produced as possible and without Bobby Digital vocals (the 4 last songs from the album appears on here though since they are not part of the 'In Stereo' album, but plays more like a RZA '98 EP) - there's one joint each on here from True Master, 4th Disciple, Darkim Be Allah and DJ Muggs respectively. Most, if not all, Clan members are featured on here and other apperances come from Killarmy, La The Darkman, AZ, Cappadonna and Timbo King. This is obviously not exactly how a RZA album would've sounded in '98 but it might give us a hint at which direction the album could've taken.
Give it a spin and see how you feel it compares to 'Bobby Digital in Stereo'. 'Wu World Order' (Ft. La The Darkman) 02. 'Tragedy' [prod. By True Master & RZA] 03. 'Fuck What You Think' (Ft.
9th Prince & Islord) 04. 'Lab Drunk' 05. 'Diesel' (Ft. Wu-Tang Clan) 06. 'The Chase' 07. 'What's Goin' On' (Ft. Gravediggaz, 9th Prince & Blue Raspberry) 08.
'12 Jewelz' [prod. By Darkim Be Allah] 09. '96 Recreation' (Ft. Cappadonna & ODB) [prod. By 4th Disciple] 10. 'Daily Routine' (Ft. Beretta 9) 11.
'Project Talk' (Ft. Beretta 9) 12.
'So High (G-13)' (Ft. Timbo King) 13. 'Third World' (Ft. GZA/Genius) [prod. By DJ Muggs] 14.
'Samurai Showdown' 15. 'Whatever Happened (The Birth)' (Ft. I actually thought the experimental 'RZA' tracks on In Stereo were the worst part of the album.yeah i agree with you, the album plays alot better with the genius of 'My Lovin' is Digi' turning into 'Domestic Violence' closing the flick. I think the album would've gotten generally better reviews if he hadn't put them on there.
I ain't calling this compilation better than 'In Stereo' in any way though, i prefer the B.D. Album but alot of people was saying they thought RZA would've delivered a better album as RZA at that time. Another nice looking compilation claaa7, I imagine listening to that version and getting a more upbeat and live feel than the original Bobby Digital which was darker with more drastic transitions of moods. When I compare your comp to the og Bobby Digital, I see how RZA designed it more to feel like a movie or soundtrack, whereas your version is more like a straight forward hip hop album. I remember RZA releasing a bunch of spare unreleased songs in late 90's/early 2000s without a clear intention of where they would end up on, so a compilation like this is good.
